KT renews contract with Ace Cuevas for $1.5 million
Mel Rojas Jr. returns to KT Wiz
Foreign hitter Mel Rojas Jr. (33), who received the 2020 KBO League Most Valuable Player Award (MVP), returned to his former team, KT Wiz.
On the 7th, professional baseball team KT announced, “We signed a contract with Rojas Jr. for a total of $900,000.”
After signing with KT, Rojas said, "I'm happy to wear the KT uniform again. I had a lot of good memories while playing for KT, and I had a strong desire to return. I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates and fans again."
Rojas Jr. is a foreign hitter who led the KT batting lineup from 2017 to 2020.
He hit a batting average of .300 and double-digit home runs in all four seasons, and in 2020, he had a batting average of 0.349 (3rd), 47 home runs (1st), 135 RBI (1st), 116 runs (1st), and a slugging percentage of 0.680 (1st). He recorded a record and won the regular season MVP.
He moved to the stage after receiving a love call from the Hanshin Tigers of the Japanese professional baseball team, but was kicked out after only hitting 0.220 and 17 home runs in two seasons.
Rojas Jr. continued his career as a player in the Mexican League and Dominican Winter League this year.
KT general manager Na Do-hyeon said, “I watched Rojas consistently even when he played in other leagues,” and added, “I judged that he was still competitive.”
KT starting pitcher Cuevas pitches well
KT also renewed a contract with right-handed pitcher William Cuevas, who is the top winning percentage in the 2023 season, for a total of $1.5 million.
Cuevas, who joined KT in 2019, was kicked out in the middle of the 2022 season due to an elbow injury, but rejoined this year as a replacement player and showed off his best skills.
In 18 games, he recorded 12 wins, no losses, and an ERA of 2.60.
General Manager Na Do-hyeon said, "Cuevas' skills have already been proven," and "He is in good physical condition, so we pushed for a renewal of his contract. I hope he will play the role of an ace next season as well." 스포츠토토맨
